Senior Backend Engineer - Retrieval & Platform Architecture

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer on behalf of a leading SaaS company in Stockholm.

In this assignment, you will join an autonomous innovation team focused on building backend infrastructure that enables enterprise AI applications to access and retrieve complex technical content. You will help shape a sophisticated platform involving retrieval systems, knowledge graphs, APIs, and access control, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and architectural quality.

About the assignment

You will design and build robust backend systems for structuring, retrieving, and governing complex enterprise content. This includes working with retrieval architectures, complex data structures, APIs, permissions, and integrations with external services.

A key focus is making retrieval fast, accurate, and traceable, while ensuring secure interactions between platform components and AI agents. The role also involves architectural challenges around data governance, answer traceability, and integrations such as MCP.

This is a backend-heavy role for an engineer who enjoys complex technical challenges, architectural problem-solving, and working across different programming languages. Experience with knowledge graphs, GraphRAG, or similar retrieval approaches is a plus.

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in backend engineering with preferably languages like Rust, Python, Go or Java. It's great if you're a polyglot who is used to working across different tech stacks.

• Experience designing and implementing robust backend systems, APIs, and integrations between services.

• Strong understanding of complex data structures, system interactions, and architectural trade-offs.

• Ability to build reliable, performant, and maintainable systems, with attention to accuracy, traceability, and access control.

• Professional fluency in English.

• Based in Sweden with valid legal right to work.

Nice to have:

• Experience with knowledge graphs, GraphRAG, graph databases, or graph-based retrieval.

• Experience with RAG architectures, information retrieval, or search systems.

• Familiarity with AI agents and tool integration patterns such as MCP.

• Experience with permissions, governance, and traceability in complex data or content platforms.
